When I was about 11 years old, I met a girl online in a gaming chat room. Fast forward 5 years and she had become a sort of internet best buddy - so much so that I flew to America to meet her.

I became friends with a guy over ICQ around 2005. We were both about 15-16.We chatted everyday for years. He went through cancer when he was about 17 and we became even closer and talked on the phone on a regular basis.He thankfully survided and after a year or so he was considered in remission. I moved to England when I was about 20-21 ( we are both originally from Germany) and decided to meet in Brighton while I was couch surfing with a friend( does anybody still that do that ? I hope not , it was dreadful) and it was like we'd known each other forever and we had a great time. We stayed friends for a couple of years after and are still Facebook friends but I moved to the states about 4 years ago and life just happened. We don't talk anymore besides the odd FB " happy birthday" message but it was a good time.

I had such a similar situation. I met this girl called Chantal from Canada through an avatar forum site called Gaia Online when I was about 12. We talked for months on MSN Messenger and I eventually persuaded her to make a Bebo account so I could make a skins for her. I drew her pictures and would write her little notes, she was so sweet. We started naturally speaking less and less until we just parted. I still wonder what she's up to now.
