I'm currently still stuck in my sabbatical, which is already going to end in ~2 weeks: Then it's back to work for me! Well, my day job, anyway.

Which is to say, I'm not done yet taking breaks and getting some traveling done. Still, thought I'd put together a very quick update before I have to catch my next train, tomorrow morning—after all, it has been a while!


WIP Sandbox Mode

The next topic is a fun one! Somewhere between travels and playing Cult of the Lamb I've actually found the time to start working on customizable game settings. Custom/Sandbox mode will come with fun options:

  • No time-limit
  • No stamina costs
  • Change start size and growth rate
  • Increase damage


So many fun sliders to chose from! (Menu/screen is still subject to change.)


The game options menu (where you can change the game mode and sandbox settings) is accessible from the character select screen. Which I thought would be a pretty elegant way to access it, before starting the game... But turns out going down this route made my life a whole lot more difficult, in terms of handling player input and menuing.

Long story short, after lots and lots of refactoring, bug hunting, some dirty workarounds and a Unity upgrade, the menus seem to finally handle just how I want them to! Phew.

So yeah, 90% of the work for Sandbox mode has been me trying to make the menus work. Riveting! But with that out of the way, I can finally start working on the fun stuff...


Messing with some of the settings might break the game. Fast.

Custom and Sandbox game modes still need some tweaking; and I still want to add the option to change the character's size on the fly while playing, when in Sandbox mode.

But now I have to finish packing my bags and make sure I get out of bed in time, to catch my train!
