omg you guys are FAST!! And THAT’S how you subvert your audience’s expectations! *side-eyes D&D* I’m a book reader and they totally had me in those last 10-ish minutes, thinking Rhaenyra had Laenor killed. Watching it again now, there are a few bits in the Daemon x Rhaenyra conversation in the background that make so much sense… “I love Laenor”, “then grant him this kindness”. Laenor said before that he’s a warrior, he has been longing for an adventure for so long after playing pretend in King’s Landing for all those years… I am really sad for Corlys and especially Rhaenys, but I’m glad that Laenor gets to LIVE somewhere else, free of the burdens and expectations placed on him because of this station. This event was adapted quite differently from how it happened in the books, but I like it so much more this way - same as Laena’s death. That’s the benefit of having a “history book” as reference instead of a P.O.V novel - the producers have A LOT of room to tie all the bits of the story and I think they’ve been doing amazing so far. Great episode, amazing reaction!!

“Do not mourn me mother. There’s a fair exchange. I may have lost an eye… but I gained a dragon”🥶 So, Helaena’s prophetic mumbling in the previous episode about Aemond riding a dragon at the expense of losing an eye proved to be true.

Alicent and Otto didn’t just gain a dragon, they already have a few dragons on their side because both Aegon and Helaena have one. They gained the biggest and most powerful dragon alive.

Also, the person burned in the fire is the random guy that Daemon killed by snapping his neck.

SerHarwin is from the riverlands so they would be Rivers

Great reaction. It's interesting to see the link in this episode in relation to what Halaena was saying when she was talking to the centipede in the last episode about "one eye".

And I think Daemon was laughing during Laena’s funeral because Vaemond was talking about how Valeryon blood runs thick, which was subtly throwing shade at Rhaenyra and her “bastard” sons. The irony. At least that’s how I interpreted it.

Acash33

Only thing I like better in the books is Rhaenyra and Daemon both loved Laena and showed grief along with Laenor.

Dragon won’t take a ride while they’re alive but when they die they’re up for grabs. The dragon chooses its rider they are not passed down. Daemon actually has Rhaenys dad dragon and she has his mom dragon.

Bastard Targs are called Blackfyre

Zakki

Yeah, I’m a bit bummed that we didn't see a Rhaenyra x Laena dynamic on the show because Laena and Daemon stayed in Pentos way too long. They never really had the opportunity to grow close. I think the producers changed this bit because they needed the time-skip to get the story moving, and Daemon was supposedly “banished” pre-timeskip. They probably wanted to show Viserys inviting him back to court on scene, so they kept Daemon and Laena in Pentos all that time. The reason for that change makes sense, but as a consequence we missed the establishment of an interesting Rhaenyra x Daemon x Laena dynamic. They could have at least shown that Daemon was happy with Laena, since we didn’t get to see all of them flying around Driftmark/Dragonstone together lol

Bastard Targs follow normal naming conventions. Blackfyre is a specific name for certain bastards in the future.

Acash33

I actually messed up and the crowlands bastards are called Waters

awesomeusername

Bastards are named for the region they grew up in rather than the region they're from, so it would be the Crownlands and the last name would be Waters.
