I really enjoyed your discussion about this episode. It’s such a thought provoking one (they all are, but this one is in my top 5 for sure). I was SO conflicted when I first watched this. My friend actually was so excited to see it with me and hear my perspective, because like you said, it’s a super interesting idea that makes for a great debate. To this day, I still feel torn about it. I’m the first one to say - if you hurt a child, I have zero pity. Let them suffer every day for a dozen lifetimes. So when I watched this and actually couldn’t immediately decide how I felt about it, I was surprised with myself. The biggest thing that still makes me take pause to the idea of this punishment is that they wipe her memory. The woman doesn’t even know what she did. Apart from little flashes she gets throughout the experience, she has no recollection of any of this. It begs the question...is it actually justice? Or is it vengeance - an eye for an eye, as you said? I think if she was still mentally intact; if she still remembered everything she did, it’d be a little simpler for me (although there’s also the flip side of...aren’t you doing something similar in ways to what she did? Mercilessly torturing someone for something she has no concept of?). Like I said, super conflicting. I honestly can’t say I’m on either side for sure. I understand them both. Love this show and how it mind fucks the viewer. I do hope they lay off blocking your videos! So sorry you’re having to go through that. Can’t imagine how frustrating that must be. Cheers :-)
