These are really tough episodes to untangle, even more than GoT, but like others have already told you: you're supposed to be confused as a first time viewer. I've seen this season more than once and I learn something new every time, it's just made to be viewed on multiple levels. You enjoy it on an emotional, first time view, and then later enjoy it in different ways on subsequent revisits. It really is a well made, thick layered, story about AI and human free will.
