That is the ritual Seppuku or Harakiri in the opening

Matty B.

In the Edo period (1603–1868), many Japanese men shaved the front of their heads and wore a topknot hairstyle called a chonmage as a status symbol. The chonmage originated as a practical way for samurai to wear their kabuto helmets in battle: Cooling: Shaving the top of the head helped keep the samurai's head cool inside the helmet, which was made of thin iron plates that could get hot. Friction fit: The topknot provided a raised contact point at the rear of the head, while the forehead provided a contact point at the front. This allowed the helmet to fit the samurai's head with friction, while leaving a gap at the top for ventilation. Keeping helmet in place: The chonmage helped keep the helmet steady on the samurai's head. The chonmage is still popular today among sumo wrestlers.
