Yeah I tend to defend this season a lot against people complaining that it's "too slow" because I think most of these people don't understand what it was that originally made GOT great (hint, it wasn't the battles and the dragons). But I agree that they spend too much time on that Daemon plot and that they need to move on fast. One of the issues is that during this time in the book, Alicent and Rhaenyra and Daemon are just not doing a lot. Alicent was never that big of a character in the book to begin with and now she has no power or importance whatsoever to the plot, Rhaenyra is delegating most of her stuff to Jace and Daemon is just at Harrenhal gathering the river lords. But of course this is a tv show and they can't not have Matt Smith or Olivia Cooke or Emma D'Arcy on screen for an episode or two, they are the stars after all. But it really does seem like these characters are just waiting for the plot to happen at this point. I think they could probably have condensed the last two episodes into one, that would have been better. Without spoiling anything, there are also some changes the showrunners made to the Daemon storyline or rather, to some characters in the book adjacent to the Daemon storyline, that I'm not a fan of. We'll see how the execution goes but just from the premise alone, those changes are kind of disappointing. Though I do like that they are giving some of the smallfolk characters like Ulf or Hugh or Alyn and Addam a bit more depth.
