The show really has a lot of subversion and surprises, yes and it might get silly or feel dumb. But on a second looks, or third viewing, it always feels rewarding and the characters stay quite consistent. I never doubted Polly, because even in her 'fuck them all' phase, she is the most loyal to Tommy. Now Tommy playing both sides politically, that is a risky risky game. You love to see it.

Tommy didn't want the child that's why he said he knew a woman who could do the abortion. Tommy respects Lizzie because she's loyal but he doesn't love her like he loved Greta Jurossi and Grace.
