A PDF discussing how to create Cthulhu Mythos spells using GURPS Ritual Path Magic

Nice! I'm running a "The Laundry" (tL) campaign using GURPS4e rules, since I think the Cubicle 7 rules are a bit dodgy. The magic system for tL is not anything like the CoC magic system. It's very simple, really, except it has three magic system modes... Computational, Traditional, and Mental. I'm using a variant of the Ritual Magic system from GURPS Thaumaturgy (not RPM). Now that Monster Hunters 5 is out, I'm thinking about switching to Ritual Path Magic. It looks like it may support the three different modes. Have you seen tL? Any thoughts?

Oh, I love the Laundry. :-) A lot of my ideas on "digital magic" were incorporated/inspired technomagic in MH5. I was also a consultant on the whole book and it looks like most of my ideas were used. For Laundry-style magic I'd totally use technomagic, but DUMP the Energy Gathering model and switch to Effect-Shaping from Pyramid #3/66 The Laws of Magic. It was one of my inspirational sources when tweaking Effect Shaping for use with RPM.

Christopher, I took a look at Effect-Shaping. I can see why you suggested it for Technomagic, but I think Energy Gathering works as well. Think of it this way... For Computational Demonology you need to keep summoning demons, and squirting tasty energy at them through level 1 or level 2 gates. Each time you do that is akin to an RPM gathering. Also it makes more complex "programs" take longer to program. It also allows a reason why these are one-shot programs, and not scripts, because the act of squirting tasty energy takes incremental units of time. I also think then that plain-ol' RPM with energy gathering can be used for tL's "Ritual" magic system. I'd use the rules from MH5 for tL's "Mental" magic system, with quirks (or crit failures) leading to accumulation of "Krantzberg Syndrome." What do you think?

Well, I'm busy at the moment (making some Patreon goodies for you guys!), but if you want to write up how you'd do it I'll put it on my blog. :-)

Before I do anything like publishing the ideas on a blog, I'd like to work some things out. I'd like to convert (at least some of) the standard Laundry RPG grimoire into RPM to see what kink of energy levels come out. It would be nice if there were some sort of mapping between tL spell levels and RPM energies. Unfortunately I've got this nasty thing called a job that keeps getting in the way. Maybe next weekend will give me some time. I'd like to take you up on your offer at some point.

I also want to think of some way of mapping RPM energy levels to minimum computer complexities.
