It's been given multiple treatments in multiple editions of GURPS books. Within the last ten years, it's also become one of the more popular monsters and is slowly getting morphed from its original roots (like the wolfman when Hollywood got of a hold of it). I grew up listening to all kinds of stories, but never this one. Indeed, it wasn't until a friend of mine's father felt talkative that he spoke about the witiko to me after exhausting some of his other tales. I'd found myself in Connecticut (I think it was Beacon Falls - but I honestly don't remember). I'd left a few weeks before on a bus to go travel the coast in the summer. I was fourteen and collecting stories and was running low on money when I met my would-be-friend after he bought me coffee. I told him what I was doing and oddly he took me to his house and told his parents. They put me up for a couple of weeks and its one of my more pleasant memories from my youth. Anyways, the wendigo terrified me. It stuck with me. It haunted my dreams, and I wrote about it often in those early journals. Later on, I reencountered it in the 1999 horror film Ravenous with Robert Carlyle as the sinister creature. I didn't sleep for days. Over the years, I've used all sorts of wendigo in my campaigns, this one is a bit of Hollywood myth and Native American lore with a dash of Blackwood and my own personal nightmare fuel. The original Whitewalker, wendigo's are creatures of primal nature - specifically hunger. Nothing is more basic then hunger, and nothing riles us up more than being hungry. What if no matter how much you ate you could never be full? No drink would slake your thirst? And what if only human flesh truly satisfied that need - for a time, anyways. It'd be a living hell. Make your player's lives nightmarish with this new Triple Threat - and if you have to sleep with the light on tonight, well, you're in good company. http://www.ravensnpennies.com/2014/12/triple-threat-wendigo.html#.VKJW6V4AKA

Ravens N' Pennies: Triple Threat - Wendigo

Wendigo are terrifying shapeshifters who were once human, but through accident or choice ate human flesh. Over time the more they ate the more they craved until eventually, they became inhuman creatures who only look like human beings - but only on the outside.
