July Art Rewards Preview (Patreon)

Recently I had a very good suggestion (thanks patron 'Bob_Ross'!) that I do a preview every month of upcoming monthly art rewards. 

Sometimes it will be just a rough sketch of where I might be heading with ideas for the art reward and other times a little bit of a ‘behind the scenes’ article.

For July I’m working on theme of ‘Goddess’. 

A bit of history... ‘Goddess’ was one of the winning words of the One Word theme poll and was set to be drawn shortly after the ‘Thicc’ series then I got the opportunity to do a collaboration on a project on the theme of Goddess. Frustratingly nothing has come of this as yet ( not for trying on my part) so I’ve decided to go it alone.

Back in February, Savannah, one of my pregnant life models did a photo shoot for me and thinking ahead to the goddess theme also shot some additional poses I could use as some photo reference for future art.

In addition to photo shoot images, I also gather together any reference images that I might need to inspire or inform me. It can include, colours, lighting, figure reference, clothing, jewellery, make up, textures and locations.

I find researching themes a lot of fun. The amount of reference I collect for a piece of art is dependent on how familiar I am with the subject matter already. The less familiar with a subject then the more I research it.

As important as good reference images are, they should only be in support of the art’s concept and not lead it. Also I have to remind myself not to let the research phase be a delaying tactic to stop getting on with the art no matter how rough it might start out!
