This finale is really great and bittersweet. Contrast this finale scene with Connors new family around a dinner table, with the opening scene of episode 4x1 with Angels fantasy/delusion of a happy family dinner. In that scene, Wesley made a toast to family and this scene it was Connor, which I think beautifully bookends the whole season regarding Angel and Connors arcs. They both wanted to have a family but by the end Angel realizes that in order for Connor to have that he has to give him up so he has a happy life even if it’s without Angel. As the creepy bug demon explained to Wesley in that episode, Love is Sacrifice. Angel sacrifices Connors old life to give him a new happy life. Same as Buffy sacrificed herself in season 5 finale to ensure Dawn goes on and lives the life she was newly given.
