For some reason this episode is simultaneously not memorable and very memorable for me. I really like Gunn and Gwen individually and their chemistry is, pardon me, electric. Gunn getting to show off his intelligence and wit and people skills is too much of a rarity, you're right that he's been too much in the background. And I like that they acknowledged through Gwen that Angel Investigations doesn't seem to value Gunn very highly, or they don't take full enough advantage of his strengths beyond being "the muscle." It's hard to notice, but Gunn has come up with so many solutions to a variety of problems over the course of the series with almost no kudos from anyone. He has a clarity of thought that is grounded and practical, he's caring but capable of making tough decisions, he picks up on important social cues with Cordy/Connor and Wesley/Fred and is basically ignored or gaslit about it every time. Not to mention he's probably the least neurotic character in the show (it used to be Cordelia). With every rewatch of this series I get more and more defensive about Gunn haha

I remember seeing this the first time and freaking out as Cordy was about to stab Lorne. The lights coming on made me so so happy!

He def doesn't get the credit for his brains... remember when he found Darla? Dude thinks a couple steps ahead.
