Hearing that final song reminds me that The OC was one of the first shows that consciously used lesser-known “indie band” songs of the day for soundtracks, which helped boost those bands’ record sales and influenced musical tastes at the time. They would issue not one or two soundtrack albums, but several over the course of the show. I remember in the early days of iTunes that OC Soundtracks were always coming out, it seems like every couple of months.
