The whole $10k hush money always makes me laugh, like if Taffy were actually a sex worker she'd probably cost $10k a night. You cannot "be free" or "go anywhere" with $10k, but you can with the amount of money you'd get from winning a lawsuit against a big hotel. I think they put that part in there to be like "Taffy makes so much as a professional burglar that $10k isn't even tempting" but that'd also be true if she were a prostitute.
