One of the things I love about this show is how it treats every one of its characters as real people, and also its authentic handling of trauma. When we first meet Jessica, all we know is that she's a functioning alcoholic with an attitude. Now we understand that Killgrave broke her, and she spends every second of her life in a constant state of paranoia. She can't even trust a random little girl on the street. The writers even took the time to contrast Jessica's method of coping with the support group environment, which is appropriate since Killgrave is committing a form of rape.
