Do you watch TV shows with subtitles? (Patreon)

Just wondering because I might consider turning on subtitles for some shows!

I have tinnitus and can miss some dialogue. Subtitles helps me fill in the gaps but I may only need them on once, as I can remember for reruns. For foreign language shows, I prefer dubbing as I can see facial expressions which I'd miss while reading.

I put ‘no’ because I dont need subtitles unless the show is not in english. But dont mind if there subtitles

My sister is hard of hearing and I got used to reading subtitles with her, and of course there have been movies I love that are almost all subtitles (most anime). It's second nature now and I feel uneasy watching stuff without subtitles now. :)

Personally, only if the language of the show is not one I speak fluently enough to follow without issues. But if having subtitles helps people whose first language is not English or who are hard of hearing or deaf then I'm all for it. Of course, if you really want to help those people you'd also have to create subtitles for your commentary... ;-)

I personally like subtitles! The only issue I can see is that some episodes might give spoilers. In season 1 episode 3 of Buffy, during the stiring the pot scene before it was shown "Amy" was the witch, the subtitles labeled the voice as "Amy" so be careful, as they may give spoilers on "not revealed who" things.

If I can hear/understand the dialogue clearly, then no because I find them distracting. If it's a comedy, I never do because the CC often gives the punchline before it is said. But if you need CC for some shows, then go for it.

I use subtitles for shows not in English (like, rather than dubs), but it never bothers me when people use them for shows with fast dialogue or difficult-to-understand accents. It can be good actually, because some reactors (def not you) talk a lot and can miss stuff unless they have subtitles on. You should do whatever feels easiest and most comfy for you :)
