Just curious if everyone here has seen the Buffy spin-off..

Comments

Bisibia

Yes! And it’s just as good (errr damn close)!

Einar Sigurðsson

Yes and you really must watch it alongside Buffy. You will not regret it. If Buffy is a show about growing up, Angel is about facing your past and to keep living (and fighting the good fight)

Kristin Carter

Yep. I follow the Watcher's Council watch order (if you don't want to know which episodes are cross overs, one of us can send you the list).

Chip

I have, and it is great. I agree with those who say you should watch it along with Buffy.

Einar Sigurðsson

I recommend getting the watching order from Aftershow Reacts. She did a great job lining it up

Andrew Pulrang

I've watched Angel, I love it, I hope you react to it. Oddly though, I still haven't seen the last season.

Becky Howell

I’ve seen it like a million times! It’s amazing and I would definitely recommend watching it! I agree with an above comment After Show Reacts has done amazing lining all of them up so maybe check with her the order. Hope you watch and enjoy! 😘

Becky Howell

Omg you must! It’s one of my favourites of the series has some amazing twists that I shall not spoil! I hope you do get round to it, you won’t be disappointed 😊

Inseriousity

Yes but several years afterwards. Hey, it'll help you drag out Buffy for longer haha

UTU49

I've seen every episode of the Buffyverse multiple times. I like Buffy a little more than Angel, but I love both series. It doesn't surprise me in the least that some people like Angel better. They're similar but different.

Talmet

Angel is at times great, and at times not so good....overall I’d rate it a little lower than Buffy. I’d say the High points of Angel are equal to the high points of Buffy, but the low points are lower. In particular one plot is so stupid it is possibly the worst in any show ever. But, that’s just one plot...like if you just really hated season 2 of Buffy it wouldn’t make season 3 any worse. Because I don’t want to spoil you, I won’t say when the bad part of Angel comes, and I hope nobody responds to this with spoilers.

UTU49

Van, ask ASR what it has been like for her to watch Buffy and Angel together. (Maybe u already have.) She's just under 2 seasons ahead of you.

Thomas Hansen

I'm side-eyeing so many people here who's unable to keep spoilers to themselves.

Christine

Yes! I think you should watch them together. I feel like it loses something if you watch all of Buffy first.

UTU49

"These ARE my better days, Londo." I keep meaning to say hi on ASR's discord, cuz I love B5.

Robin Gibbons

For sure watch them together. Angel takes a bit of season 1 to get going, but it is nearly at Buffy's level for most of it's run. Nearly..

UTU49

If you find it a bit arduous, I'd be totally happy if you did all of Buffy first and then Angel. That's what Torchwood Boy is doing. On the other hand, it has been very cool to watch ASR experiencing them together.

Absolutely, without a doubt, Buffy and Angel should be watched together. There are many references to each other throughout their runs, full-blown crossover episodes and the overall joint continuity to consider. If you were to watch all of one before the other you'll be spoiled on numerous things. I'll add another vote for you to check with ASR as to the recommended viewing order - it'll help you avoid the numerous spoilers you'll find attached to every online "spoiler-free" (lol) episodes guide. =)

As many people have indicated, Angel and Buffy are designed to be watched together. The plot of each show affects the other significantly throughout the next four seasons, with no fewer than 23 distinct crossover events and inter-show references during the shows' tenure. :) If you like, I'd be more than happy to get you the same viewing order that I tortured ASR with, ahem, I mean ENCOURAGED her to follow. She's been happy with it, at least that's what she tells me.

Ann Reinke

I've watched it, but man is it not my thing. It's one of those YMMV things, and there are people out there who think Angel is superior. For my money, it didn't age as well as Buffy.

Holi117

Yes, have seen all ofbuffy and angel multiple timesz the first few times I watched buffy s4 and angel 1 and beyond consectutively. Theres lots of online lists of recommended viewing orders. After that, I just watch what I want, when I want, usually binge buffy haha. About to finish another angel rewatch this week actually

After Show Reactions

I won't lie to you. It will be difficult going back and forth from each show but I do believe it is more enjoyable if you enjoy the crossover element. It's hard to sometimes deal with pacing as the two shows are vastly different from each other but I feel breaking it up can be refreshing! Torchwood Boy did about 6-10 episodes a season of Buffy and then started Angel and has since done every episode. Some of the crossovers that we have both seen at this point had very different reactions, not because we are so different - but because it's been so long since he saw part 1 of the crossover. Basically, I think it's messy watching all of Buffy then Angel (from what I've noticed of TWB - hes lovely and I mean nothing mean toward him at all) but I personally enjoy the crossover elements. Plus I've noticed, if there's a sad episode of Buffy, there's normally a good cheery Angel episode next to pick up the pieces and vise versa. Happy with whatever you decide to do.

Renee Pope-Munro

I have watched it, but I don’t have the love affair with it. And I HAAAAAAATE when my Buffy content gets lessened because people are like, oh if I u load something Angel, same thing. No. NO. They are totally different shows. I appreciate Angel, but I LOVE Buffy.

Renee Pope-Munro

I totally disagree with this, particularly given how frequently the watch list order was jacked up (despite them airing concurrently). I watched them completely separately, and it made literally no impact to my viewing experience.

Alexis Cardarella

I’m one of those people that wasn’t interested in watching both initially. I watched Buffy all the way through.. I eventually watched Angel. And I occasionally still do this- watch them separately. But I LOVE watching both in tandem.. Like, ASR said, it’s different pacing, a different spectrum of the drama comedy genre.. They are independent shows but they ARE designed to coincide. It’s a blast watching them together. I think you have the patience and self discipline to go back and forth.

Nichole Hutchison

Watched Buffy and Angel both multiple times. Different themes in the shows and I love them both equally I would have to say.

JasonCrane

Yes, and they have the best cross-overs! As for the viewing order, I don't like the one ASR is following, it's been pretty frustrating lately. I recommend finding a better one.

Talmet

What's frustrating about ASR's watch order? I mean, it might not be the watch order that I would have decided on, but I can't think of any instances where something is spoiled (i.e. an event on Angel is mentioned in Buffy, or vice versa).

Drew

Watching both together would be great, but watching Angel after Buffy works pretty well too (the spoilers won't be that bad, but don't do the opposite, watching Angel first will spoil Buffy a lot more). To watch them in tandem, you should follow this guide, I found it recently and I think it would work much better than ASR order: http://slayalive.com/showthread.php/3924-The-Buffy-Angel-watching-guide

Talmet

There are pros and cons of any watch order. Personally, I see a bunch of things I'd change around in that one...but you're never going to find a watch order which is agreed upon by all fans.
