Great work, but it definitely feels like there could have been more, and they could have gotten bigger. I know that's a frequent (and unhelpful) comment in this community, but it really is true in this case. The destructive nature of the contest invites them to get to troublesome proportions, and increased sizes would have made 'the ox's' secret advantage more important. I loved the "ox and frog" motif, and thought it really tied everything together nicely, and made this story so much more than it would have been in the hands of another writer. Sorry if this sounds negative. I guess one way I could phrase it is I would love to see The Ox and the Frog: Extended Edition! If you're up for it.

Just had a read through and I loved it! First off your descriptions of Mrs Mulgrew were simply delicious :) I also really liked how you used the pupils imagining all kinds of things whilst she was teaching - I certainly used to to that back at school and so did plenty of others. Its also lets you go into total fantasy land without losing the plot. The story of the frog and the ox was also priceless - you got Mrs Mulgrew an Crystal's characters down perfectly. The feeding completion worked perfectly. I also really liked the ending when you introduced her husband and showed the softer side of Mrs Mulgrew. Overall awesome work!
