Howl’s Moving Castle is actually based off of an old English book, and I’ve heard the plot and appearances of the characters is quite different. But a lot of Ghibli films are originals! Also, Miyazaki (the founder and director for the large majority of Ghibli films is famously anti-war and a lot of their movies share this sentiment. And they do have a large range of female main characters! (howl’s moving castle, Totoro, the secret world of Ariety, Kiki’s delivery service) but the main character of Princess Mononoke is actually a guy. (Similar to how it’s called HOWL’s moving castle but he’s not the main character) but that movie is very good and deals with things like industrialization and the environment. (It’s on the more bloody side in terms of studio Ghibli)
