I wonder how abstract a concept a curse can form from. Like could there be a curse for the fear of fire or death like the grim reaper? so many possibilities

For the record, Mahito wasn't created by the kid. He said it himself, he is a curse created from humans who hate humanity. The same way that hundreds of thousands of people fear volcanoes, for example, Mahito was created by an extremely large amount of hateful people who dislike other people. Plus the fact that he was around since before the theater scene was shown and you can see him walk by Junpei before he entered the theater. Also, Mahito went there to watch the movie.

Yeah they are a little confused Mahito is created from the fear of humans and hatred of humans. He was creating by everyone’s negative emotions. Junpei didn’t make him. But Mahito showed up most likely of Junpei’s immense hatred because places with more hate and fear are more likely to have curses appear.

Yeah, Mahito already existed, since we already saw him in episode seven. What I believe happened in this episode is that Junpei gained the ability to see him and other curses, similar to how Windows in this world work. He gained the ability due to all the negativity that's been boiling within him because of all the bullying.
