You guys probably figured it out after the reaction, but it looks like they locked the Chief in the well inside the well and destroyed the panel that could allow someone to take him out. I agree that the show could have been better as a two cour thing, with the half-season finale here being either a reveal of John Walker's MO of stopping their serial killer after 7 kills or about the serial killers' shared dreams. The writers could then remove the limit of 7 total serial killers created and have more time with each of the Kura members, maybe giving each a case where their personal experience ends up helping out. A bunch of the Kura peeps are barely differentiated. Could have been more hype seeing the purple hair dude become the chief if we actually knew anything about him. The show's greatest strength, other than the mystery aspect, was probably the character-driven portions. Not delving into that strength due to the length was probably what lead to the final episodes being so meh compared to the beginning and middle. They rushed the reveal of John Walker and his MO super hard, the whole thing was put together by Handomachi in 5 minutes a few episodes ago in a series of panning shots inside a room, instead of the usual multiple episodes trickle of intrigue. Single cour giveth, single cour taketh away.
