That receiver looks very different. When did side rails become a thing?

Yes, the receiver is actually almost the same as with Zastava M64 - one of the first models made. Side rails became a thing later when they figured special units had the need to attach night optics to the rifles. As far as i know they never seriously considered attaching normal optics to the rifle until after the war

I have the full stock version rifle (semi-auto) that came to the US as a de-milled parts kit. The bolt hold open lever was not included in the parts kit and I wondered how it worked. Thanks for showing it.
