Sometimes, people talk about genies and their tendency to leave the bottle - it's very difficult to get them back in there.  Somebody must have figured it out, though, because they're always getting found with their genies still intact.

You can't unbake a cake, either.  A more Wild Western, homespun version of this is Them Cows Has Left The Barn.  Artificial Intelligence - or what we're calling Artificial Intelligence at the moment - is the cow.  Or the genie.  It's whatever should have been in a specific place but is no longer in that place.  And we can discuss, in a metaphor appropriate fashion, who was responsible for the lamp rubbing or the barn door or whatever.  But there's nothing, literally nothing, to be done.

It's going to be in everything, everywhere.  In truth, sophisticated learning models and targeting have been just underneath the vast majority of online experiences for a minute now.  The iceberg just flipped, is all.

We discussed it a bit on the regular ol' site before, for Mike this whole thing has a spiritual dimension, and I think it's more like we're living through a modern retelling of John Henry.  That story doesn't end super well.  I just want to keep my eye on it, like a mean snake, so that I can figure out how to live consciously, effectively, in a world where it is also there.

I'd like to think that this modern retelling of John Henry will involve the line "now ole' Mike K was a tit-drawin' man" sung by an AI reconstruction of Johnny Cash

The second panel should be made into a meme that is titled "Definition of AI art". It should also be a t shirt.
