On this episode of WHY YOU LIKE THIS, we invite our friend, behind-the-cameraman, and erstwhile PAPA Mr. GhostlyClockwork to our interrogation room to force him to tell us everything he knows about Homestuck, an up-and-coming webcomic experience with a surprisingly small fanbase! Jokes aside, I really enjoyed this episode, personally, though I think it may have briefly sent Josh to Hell (citation needed.) WATCH as our very own Ghostly Clockwork very, very patiently explains Homestuck to me, a pink-haired beast who makes too much chatter, and Josh, who is surprisingly philosophical about this whole affair!

Fun fact: Ghostly lent me his copy of the Homestuck book, which I did not read ahead of this episode and indeed still have not read!  As well as a thumb drive purportedly containing the whole of the Homestuck video library, which I have not watched (and still have not!) But despite all this, I feel that recording this episode has really enriched my appreciation of the MS Paint Adventures saga and the people who love it. Our friend GhostlyClockwork is a very nice young man, and we enjoyed having him on the show. Please, in honor of Homestuck Day (aka Neil Banging Out the Tunes Day), watch this episode and tell me how you like this WHY YOU LIKE THIS!

I am also a Homestuck, I got into it a bit late but was very into it in the latter half, so I really enjoyed listening to this conversation. Tom did a great job explaining some of the most (in)famous parts of the fandom and story. Homestuck is one of those fandoms that gets a bad rap because of its worst elements, but I like to look at all the positive things it brought to my life instead of the cringiest. I just wish Jerry had been here; I think he would have really enjoyed the convoluted story, made up words, and how storytelling through chat logs allows for a character's typing style to be a part of their personality. A couple more random thoughts. * One of the reasons for the very simplistic art is that updates were usually fast and furious. Having simple, reusable base designs meant that there were often multiple updates a day with dozens of pages. * The beginning of Homestuck is where a lot of people stop, because it's much more meandering. Like Tom said, at the time it was based on suggestions from the audience, so that meant a lot more silly stuff that doesn't matter to the overall story. It eventually becomes more focused. * Those of us in our group who cosplayed trolls took sealing our makeup very seriously. * Homestuck is dripping in irony. It's equal parts genuine and satire. Like Mike and Jerry have said, it's very difficult to do "so bad it's good," and Homestuck does it constantly. * Are Gabe and Tycho moirails or kismesises?
