No brakes! There's no brakes on this shit AT ALL.
I'm gonna try to get out of town for a couple days, don't entirely know how that's gonna go. The fantasy was that I Might be able to look at my mother and my sister, from a distance, and then move almost imperceptibly, which I consider sort of the Gold Standard for human interaction generally. But my mom has been talking a lot about 5G and subdermal implants, which I think means I probably shouldn't get even that close. I guess we'll have to see. I don't know how far a nanobot can jump.
We were thinking about Ninja and Shroud, who - having been completely paid out on Mixer contracts that stretch anywhere from ten to (by some estimates, in Ninja's case) thirty million - are now the locus of speculation about where they'll eventually end up. We describe our own thought process within the incomparable strip: what is the fuckin' rush.
The primary distinction here, I think, is that someone like Ninja actually likes being observed, as hard as that is for us to understand. I think Shroud is just doing his shit. But Ninja likes fame, which after twenty plus years beneath its strange red light Mike and I recognize instinctively as a warping, daemonic force. We only want to be observed to the extent that we have to so we don't have to work someplace we hate, someplace that hates us - and, to the extent possible, extend that nimbus to the people who are in our care. That's it, and anything past that is folly. I've said as much on stage, which I will admit is a strange place to say such things, but it's true. To make your living this way is to place your hand on a palantir, and to leave it there, with everything that entails.
For example: I really like doing these posts, and putting comics in here, because it feels exactly like it used to. This scale of interaction is about the level my monkey brain feels safe with. There is a point in the future, years from now but inevitable, where all new comics live on here. Just, like… make things for people who want things made for them. I mean… right? Doesn't that make more sense?
We're good, and I hope you're good. Thanks for stickin' around.
