It is I - and I return, with a tender strip.

I only know how many PAXes I've been to because I had a Calibration Event at the last PAX Aus, which was Show 40.  So, now I've been to forty two.  Maybe.  I'm not gonna check.  But it sounds right!

In a similar way, I don't actually know how many comics we've done.  It's not as simple as it looks: we ramped up to three strips a week, from one and then two, though it's a period more or less lost to time and certainly not visible really for those doomed souls traversing the archive.  But it means you can't just multiply easily, because (like PAX) the number of discrete events isn't stable over the sample area.  And if you include special strips we did, like the Warcraft ones back in the day, to say nothing of the ones we make for you in the Club, it's gotta be, what.  3,500?  3,750?  Some other round number like that?

We actually like doing the strips, we're just goofing around.  There have been periods where the gentle cadence of their production has been the only thing in a day that made any kind of fucking sense.  It doesn't really feel like part of the job; it exists wholly outside those conventions.  It's a very great comfort to know that we have this weird little thing whose requirements are such that we can do it for the rest of our lives.

Oh!  We also just recorded a podcast, so that should be coming out to you shortly - plus, it's looking like Wednesday's have solidified into something functional again, so The Notorious EJB and I will be getting back down on some This Old Lair.

Because I see a subset of you almost every month, a true premium experience, you might want to know where this month's precious union will occur - and that's information I have. We'll see you on Friday, at 8pm in the Cuttlefish Theater.

Remember that my birthday is in February,

I love the idea that Penny Arcade is a company founded to make web comics but now that’s just a grounding ritual. It would be like the Enterprise having a jar of soil from earth that they gently pat before entering warp speed.
