My initial plan was to develop MKM in the same way I did my first game: I worked on it in private until it was about 90% done, then I released a demo a short while before releasing the completed version on digital stores.

But mainly 2 things made me change my mind:

  • At this moment, when it comes to creating games, for many reasons I can only work on the free-time of my free-time, in a sense. This means that the amount of time I can dedicate to game development is not only extremely limited, but also highly infrequent. With the possible additional income via patreon, I would be able to dedicate more time to it.
  • Fans also suggested that it would be better if I did an open development where people could play the game as I went, and also offered suggestions to improve it or specific content to add. Patreon also helps with that.

What I'm saying is that I had never really considered patreon before, and would have just continued to work on the game like I did before: once in a blue moon, maybe 4 hours a month, to finish the game god knows when.

So at the beginning, please consider this campaign more like a tip jar if you enjoyed my first game, or if you think there is some potential in the prototype of my second game.

But if this patreon get's traction, then I'll be able to dedicate more time to working on the game, and therefore establish more consistent development times and updates.

In that scenario:

  • I'd be able to dedicate more time to creating the game, meaning faster development time and better game design quality overall;
  • Fans get more frequent updates and engagement due to the above;
  • Patreons get to try out the game as I'm making it;
  • Patreons get to have a say on which content is prioritized;
  • Patreons can vote on which fetishes and types of enemies/animations get in the game;
  • I can design and create custom enemies/animations based on those votes;
  • While the game will still be premium, patreons will get digital keys and redeem them to play the full completed game once it is released, with the benefits of receiving the free updates that come after, and also their names in the credits;

Beyond that, a successful campaign would give me confidence to actively pursue my dream of working full time making video games, which would mean that I would be able to create and design bigger, better and more ambitious games in the future.
