Patricia

Maybe you guys could do a Shinee guide?

Patricia

The reason why Taemin was not as featured in their earlier songs was because his voice was not stable enough. This is a OST song.

You are correct! "Dynamite" originally came out in 2013 on the "Dream Girl – The Misconceptions of You" album. It was a popular b-side at the time so it made the rounds during tours. Fun fact, Minho taking off his shirt was a major viral moment back in 2015 and earned him the 17th spot on Cosmopolitan's list of "35 of 2015's Most Abs-Tastic Moments." He later was also placed on Vogue's 2017 list of "Sexiest Men Alive." "Stand by Me" is actually an OST from the VERY famous and popular 2009 KDrama "Boys Over Flowers." That drama and the SHINee song blew up and was all the rage in the early 2000s. The song is still popular until this day and SHINee members, especially Onew, are frequently asked to sing it on variety/interview shows and during events.

It's totally fine to not vibe with a song I just didn't expect it to be Dynamite and not songs like Wowowow or Woof Woof :D but appreciate the honesty. Personally I really like Dynamite (the best Dynamite song in Kpop if you ask me). it's true that a lot of the views are due to the infamous Minho 'accident' a.k.a abs but it's a great performance besides that. The song came out in 2013, it's another one off of their 3rd studio album 'The Misconceptions Of You' the Dream Girl part, whereas Evil was from 'The Misconceptions Of Me' the Why So Serious? part (it's probably one of the lengthiest album in all of Kpop comprised of two parts with 20 songs in total). I don't really get the 2010-2012 Western vibe from Dynamite in particular (it still has that Kpop'ness to it and the vocals that Western artists probably never had) but they do have some other songs that really are from that era and have taken inspirations from Western songs or even sampled them (like Ready Or Not by Michael Mind Project and Sean Kingston literally by the same title) so you might find some more you don't vibe with I suppose haha. Btw, Key is a huge Lady Gaga fan who I think many associate with that era of music and they were totally embracing it. Stand By Me is that popular because it's an OST song for a super big drama 'Boys Over Flowers'. it's that one song that most Kpop fans know even if they're not SHINee fans (or at least most older Kpop fans knew since it's from 2009). Many people have also found out about SHINee through that song back in the day. Which is why Taemin, I believe, doesn't have any solo lines in it (just like in Replay) since it's from that era where he wasn't allowed to sing much at all. I agree that this performance isn't their best vocally, must have been an off night but it's a rare case for SHINee and still better than most of what we hear by groups today. They were also only a 3-year old group at that time and all of them most definitely improved by a lot since then, especially Taemin, Key and Minho. Jonghyun and Onew were the most stable ones from the start. This concert was the last one of SM Town Live '10 World Tour in 2011. It's a joint SM Town concert not only SHINee, besides them it featured all other active SM artists at the time: BoA, f(x), SNSD, Kangta, Super Junior and TVXQ and all of them had their own fairly sized fanbases (some bigger than others). Although, of course the numbers were pretty low at around only 11K people in New York vs their Tokyo part of the tour at 150K (in 3 days). FYI, their concert in Paris gathered 14K attendees so K-pop was pretty equally niche everywhere else outside of Asia back then.

Stand by me is an OST for one of the most popular k-dramas ever, Boys over flowers. This OST was VERY popular and introduced MANY people to SHINee.

This performance of Dynamite earned Minho bothe the title of "the most abstestic moment of 2015" and the title of the first Asian on Vogue's list of the 12 sexiest man in the world, the 2015 edition.

+++ Yes please!!! Would very much help to get to know them and their history better. Also, they're some of the most funniest artists ever, all members have interesting and distinctive personalities which makes their non-music content like varieties very much entertaining as well. I have left many links under one of the previous reactions but reposting some of them here just in case. Not really a guide but a very cool video done by Jonathan Miller for their anniversary last year, describing SHINee's impact in Kpop and whole music industry. I think you'd really enjoy this one as it taps into the evolution of the technology, internet, music industry and how SHINee ties into all of that (their impact and legacy as a group as well as individually). SHINee's Impact in Music is BIGGER Than You Think. {{Deep Dive}} [15th Anniversary Tribute]: https://youtu.be/9trZ7XFOL5w It's already somewhat outdated but still the newest and most informative guide out there (over an hour long) from 2022: https://youtu.be/LiYLVmCqazg Shorter introductory compilations from 2020 and 2021 'SHINee setting the bar so high no one can reach it': https://youtu.be/bb80xyEHEoQ 'SHINee still setting the bar so high no one can reach it': https://youtu.be/IDrU5gp5DXc

As someone said Stand By Me is very popular to this day and is still quite frequently performed, below are few of the most recent (Onew solo): At the show 'Sea of Hope' together with the crew (it's got 21M views): https://youtu.be/FBW2QgRdX5w Just few weeks ago at 'The Seasons: Artist with ZICO' (with like a 20-second held note): https://youtu.be/_Jb8biZAPIs I love throwback reactions but it would also be cool to see you mix in some of the most concurrent group stages as well, there are many from the SHINee World VI (the newest concert tour) and I can't recommend enough the segment on Hangout with Yoo? few months ago where they performed Sherlock, Hard, Lucifer and Ring Ding Dong it's with a full lineup after Onew returned from hiatus, and let me tell you it was epic: https://youtu.be/5UoDn3xAe6k

SHINee World

Since Taemin was the youngest, his voice was still developing at that time, so he sang less. As he gets older and later on in the album you'll find him singing more parts. Looking at their previous stages you will find that the growth of all of them was terrifying. These are all the results of hard work and stage training.

SHINee World

Thank you for the reaction to SHINee! The album, the stage, and the solo work of each member, are all treasures waiting to be discovered!

Baekhyun, DO, Chen also did a performance Stand By Me too during their rookie days. I'm pretty sure there's a yt vid of that :D
