Venthir’s Smart Wizard Hat

Wondrous Item, Uncommon (requires attunement)

Originally a gift to a beloved teacher of the arcane, this semi-sentient and undeniably stylish wizard hat has been imbued with elegant divination magic.

While attuned to this hat, you can use an action to mentally ask the hat a yes-no question about the results of a specific course of action that you plan to take within the next 10 minutes. The gamemaster chooses from the following possible predictions:

• Affirmative. The hat answers “yes” to your question.

• Negative. The hat answers “no” to your question.

• Non-committal. The hat refuses to answer, or its answer is uncertain.

Instead of a direct “yes” or “no”, the hat may choose to give its answer with varying degrees of confidence. For example, instead of “yes” it may reply “most likely” if it’s somewhat uncertain, or “yes definitely” if it’s confident about its prediction.

The hat’s divination magic does not consider any possible circumstances that might change the outcome, such as the casting of additional spells or the loss or gain of a companion.

If you ask the hat four or more times before completing your next long rest, there is a cumulative 25 percent chance for each question after the third that you get a non-committal answer. The gamemaster makes this roll in secret.
