Character: Arif the Mage, Half-Demon Warlock of the Genie (secretly a charlatan!)

Arif’s past is shrouded in mystery as he never talks about it, and nobody is quite sure what this unknowable mage did or where he was just a year ago.

Appearing seemingly out of thin air (the very same air that his magic commands) to become a renowned hero and ally of the defiant dragons after a series of recklessly heroic acts alongside the deranged technognome artillerist Grenadio Flashbang, Arif is one of few half-demons who can walk openly among other mortals without fear of being judged for his demonic heritage.

In reality, nobody knows of Arif’s past because there is none. This man’s true name has been forgotten by all mortals except himself, allowing him to craft the persona of Arif from scratch and without fear of being exposed.

The man who would become Arif the Mage was a destitute fugitive. On the run from ruthless cultists, he spent years hiding in the ever-smoldering ruins of Maxima, the ancient capital of the Empire of Moredus, living off weeds, insects, rodents, and the occasional wine bottle that has long since turned into vinegar. His luck changed when he accidentally discovered and unleashed the air elemental lord Zaichan from divine imprisonment. Zaichan, having returned to Naam after millennia, bestowed wondrous magical powers upon the man who would become Arif, but also burdened him with the impossible task of exacting revenge upon the warring gods themselves.

About the Theomachy setting:

In Theomachy, vengeful gods fight each other for ultimate control of the universe, while the mortals of Naam struggle for power on a dying world. Divine magic is a force without expressed will that the warring gods hoard and wield against each other, threatening to undo the entire world. Clerics and paladins are either devout followers of the warring gods or theomachists who fight against the gods, liberating divine magic and using it against them.

What do you think? :)
