Saya, Black Dragonborn Samurai, in Componite Armor (Patreon)
Content
My first dragonborn from a D&D marathon in Theomachy! Here, she’s wearing componite armor made by technognomes she protected during a violent gang war. Componite is a special technognome material that’s basically curated junk!
Character: Saya, Black Dragonborn Samurai
Sworn to protect the great Shogun of Kuroi, the Black Dragonrealm, Saya spent her days perfecting her sword fighting skills and striving to lead an honorable life. When off-duty, she would find time to see her loved one, the kind black dragonborn cleric Haruto.
Years passed by and she matured, yet Haruto seemed to cling on to his youthful disposition and appearance. During the last spring matsuri they enjoyed together, under a cherry tree, Haruto revealed the truth about himself to Saya. He was in fact a dragon in hiding, cursed by a vengeful god who would claim him the moment he showed his true form to the world. She swore never to reveal his true nature to anyone, and he led her to a secret dragoncave where he gave her the Kurokiba, a mighty odachi (greatsword) crafted from the fang of a legendary black dragon, as a token of his love.
Saya accepted Kurokiba with pride, but wielding such a blade came with a heavy burden that neither she, nor Haruto knew. When Saya uncovered an assassination plot, she used Kurokiba to slay several ninjas and save the shogun, before chasing the remaining infiltrators across rooftops and through the night.
When dawn finally broke, the realm’s current dragon protector, Akemi-sama, appeared in front of Saya. Instead of congratulating her for protecting the shogun, Akemi-sama banished Saya from the realm because she had dared to wield Kurokiba against another dragonborn and thus violated a taboo that hailed back to the Dragonwars.
That same evening, Saya bid farewell to Haruto at the gates of the capital, thinking she would never see him again. Yet the hidden dragon gave her a glimmer of hope. If she could redeem herself by a great enough act of heroism, perhaps he could persuade Akemi-sama to accept her back to Kuroi, and they would be together again. But Saya’s mortal lifespan meant she only had a few decades to achieve that before old age settled in.
Saya left alone and drifted for years as a ronin, becoming more and more disillusioned as she grew older. She eventually found herself as a member of a declining dragonborn yakuza in the city-state of Neutro far to the west in a time of great turmoil. There, during a gigantic battle between the warring gods that threatened to undo the city, she struck down an old enemy of dragonkind with her mighty dragonblade, redeeming herself. After the dust settled and with Neutro still standing, she set out on the long journey back home to Haruto…
About the Theomachy setting:
In Theomachy, vengeful gods fight each other for ultimate control of the universe, while the mortals of Naam struggle for power on a dying world. Divine magic is a force without expressed will that the warring gods hoard and wield against each other, threatening to undo the entire world. Clerics and paladins are either devout followers of the warring gods or theomachists. Theomachists fight against the gods, liberating diving magic and using it against them.
What do you think? :)
