Peasant Knowledge of Pelia
The simple people of Naam, whether faithful or defiant, are weary of Pelia’s power and tread carefully during the day, knowing that the goddess sees everything under the sun.
Folk stories, whispered in secret during the hours of twilight, say that Pelia and Nelchior, the god of night, are siblings who betrayed and murdered their father, the ancient god of the sky and stole his power, splitting his heavenly domain in two. Common folk who live in most faithful domains are taught to pray to both siblings equally or risk their souls in this life and the next. These people know that if you disrespects the goddess, she might bring the sun down and burn you alive!
Scholar Knowledge of Pelia
It is a known fact among sages, devout theologians, and defiant theosophists alike that Pelia was not always one of the warring gods. The details of her rise to godhood are unclear and shrouded in legend, but historical texts from both sides of the piety spectrum agree that almost three millennia ago, Aeon, the ancient god of the skies and knowledge, went silent, and in the span of a single century since his disappearance, Pelia rose to power.
Many devout scholars believe that Pelia is not only the eternal rival, but also the sister of Nelchior, the warring god of the night and dark secrets. Some go as far as to suggest that the two deities jointly committed the crime of patricide as the common folk believe, slaying Aeon to claim the timeless magic of creation.
Preachers in faithful realms sternly warn that those who pray to one sibling without paying respects to the other can never be truly safe on the surface of Naam, and those who defy both are certain to provoke divine retribution. However, god-defying sages claim that both gods can be ignored equally with no consequences as long as one does not provoke them directly under the open sky.
Apocryphal and Forbidden Knowledge of Pelia
Mortals who have survived Pelia’s wrath and heroes who defied her will and still live may come to suspect that beyond the myths there are secret truths that could diminish Pelia’s power and weaken her grip to godhood.
Pelia’s power if vast, but not endless. Her magic is strongest during the day on anything under the open sky, but is limited during the night or deep underground. A proud ruler, her arrogance can be used against her, and clever mortals may even seek to provoke her wrath and misdirect her retribution on agents of other warring gods.
I'll post the full stained glass illustration soon!
