Characters: Rook the Elf Rogue and Cleric, Gambit the Shadow Mastiff, and Bishop the Silver Fox!
Rook, a fledgling assassin, heir of shadows, son and devoted follower of Mask, had never been sure of anything before in his life. Not like he was sure of this. The distant barking he had been hearing for days now was getting closer. It plagued his dreams, followed him even when he was convinced no one could find his trail. Now it was here, in the very aqueducts he was leading his party through.
He paused, motioning for the others to stop. Never in his life had he been afraid of the dark, he embraced it even, but now his heart threatened to drop. None of the others seemed to hear it. Maybe it was just his paranoia.
Then he saw it. Two pin points of red at the end of the tunnel. The bray seemed to shake the stones around them, shaking him to the core. Frightened, he backed away, willing his trembling hand to draw his blade. The sound of nails on stone could be heard as the beast galloped towards them. It was drawing closer. “Do not be afraid, father.” The ever familiar voice whispered to him. He snuck a glance at the shadow at his side. He was right. The fox about his shoulders trembled slightly.
Drawing a shaking breath he steadied himself. The large shape of the canine came into view, its body nearly melding with the shadows around it. It gave up a playful bark causing him to reel back a bit, shocked. He hadn’t the time to brace himself at it tackled him in a slobbery mess of kisses and puppy love. The shadow mastiff felt familiar, gave him a sense of something he hadn’t felt in years. Home.
I had a lot of fun drawing this commission! What do you think? :)
