they didn't say the real reason probably because it was silly but, the real reason she died is...she fell down the stairs, they also didn't mention it in the live action but kuro's ability is called "the pussyfoot maneuver" its not actually a devil fruit its just his skill, they usually announce when a person has a devil fruit like buggy but i can see why they didn't mention its name nor the reason for kuina's death cause both of them are goofy, also merry doesn't die in the anime nor manga i don't know why they killed him here but it is what it is

There is a theory out there that Kuina committed suicide. There's also many people that are very against that theory, but it's possible the live action decided to leave it more ambiguous on purpose because of that theory. Also the season covers 45 episodes of the anime or about 96 chapters of the manga.
