On the drink theft question: having worked at DD in HS which ye if not Starbucks but has essentially the same drink pickup set up&level of personal accountability&ease of theft, I was genuinely shocked by how uncommon drink theft was. I worked abt 12-15 hrs a week for roughly two years and in the entire time I was there, there was truly only one instance where a drink that I was 100% had been made and set out went missing and there was no unaccounted drink or or yet made drink order left in its stead. The most common “drink theft” we dealt w/ was customers accidentally grabbing the wrong drink, and then realizing as much upon sipping it. Some of them were genuinely mortified by their mistake and super apologetic but sadly most such situation were entitled assholes who IMMEDIATELY after ordering, grabbed someone else’s drink and then complained that we’d gotten their drink wrong. Occasionally, drinks that we were certain we’d made and set out did go missing but save for the one time I mentioned above, there was always either an unaccounted for drink or a drink order that upon its creation, went unclaimed, left in the missing drinks wake. All that said, I will say that occasionally a Larger sized speciality latte or some other one of our pricier drinks that we’d def made&set out, went missing and the drink left in its wake would be a notably smaller, simpler and cheaper drink— ya know like something ranging b/w a a small black hot coffee and “a regular coffee”(Med hot coffee w 2 cream, 2 sugar) which is kinda innately sus. And I mean ok, I will say; when the order was a med or large hot drink and a med coffee was left unaccounted for, that while the notable price dif was enough to make me question how unintentional the mixup truly was, the drinks looked similiar enough externally that it def coulda been an innocent mistake HOWEVER, there were like idk prolly 3, maaaybe 4(?) instances where I’m damn near positive that the person intentionally took someone else’s better/much pricier order bc the missing drink was either (A) A large or XL and the ordered drink was a small. Honestly a 2+ size dif from a medium was also incredibly sus but w a small it was imo, damning bc how dif the small hot cups and their lids were From all the other sizes: OR(and this was def the main giveaway) (B) cold and thus anotably dif temperature, in an entirely different cup, and generally speaking was visibly, obviously and fundamentally v much not drip coffee, iced or otherwise
