Hi Everyone,

Every week I've been posting a Community Challenge. This is an opportunity for my Patrons to explore creating music. Sometimes it's about applying some specific music theory concept. Sometimes it's about a specific technique. Sometimes it's an exercise in limiting yourself to some really specific parameters. Other times it's about writing from a very open ended writing prompt.

The goal is to practice being creative and actually use the music theory you've been learning here on my Patreon. In my opinion, the whole point of learning guitar is to express yourself musically.

This week's challenge is: write something joyful

Because music is a subjective thing, there are a million ways to approach this challenge. One thing to look out for is that sometimes joyful can cross over into cheesy. To some extent, this is unavoidable so please, please, take this challenge as a lighthearted fun writing experiment that may possibly steer you into cheesy territory. And that is completely OK! In my opinion, it's easier to write sad music than joyful music.

Just have fun with it and post what you write on the community forum.

Here are a few things to consider:

1. The Major Key tends to be more joyful than minor keys
2. Uptempo (roughly 110BPM and up) tends to be more joyful
3. Energetic melodies with more staccato notes than legato tend to be more joyful
4. Consistent, predictable drum beats tend to be more joyful than unpredictable beats

These are all just generalities. You may stumble upon a different combination of elements when you write for this challenge. Have fun with it, explore, and just see what happens! If you attempt this challenge and feel as though you've failed, post it anyway and talk about what you tried and why you don't think it worked!
