I see that the I-x progressions have been put on pause. Are there plans to pick it up again, or should I shift my focus to the 5 levels of soloing website that you put out?

Scott Paul Johnson

Got an updated series I started too but I'm rethinking my approach to this series and I've got some even clearer lessons brewing: https://www.scottpauljohnson.com/caged-soloing

I’m digging it! I to IV and I to V would be cool too!!

Marcus Fessele

That would be super interesting to fit a chord progression like I V! V iii or something else.

Luke

What's so special about a I-ii? Can I apply this same logic (referencing open position) in C ,A ,G , E, D keys for other chord progressions? Will the E and the A shapes still be the difficult shapes to work with, or will it vary depending on which key and chord progression?

max dewolf

Have you thought of making a video of combining all these shapes together and how we can play along the whole fretboard using these shapes?

Scott Paul Johnson

Hi Luke - there is nothing particularly special about this progression. But it is one of many potential progressions!

EZ Whip

Holy crap. Your Patreon catalyzed my cumulative instruction, knowledge, practice, and experience to finally coalesce into new brain wrinkles. I think I'm finally starting to get it. I've been grinding on the relationship between A <-> G <-> E shapes for the Am pentatonic scales and you helped me see how it all fits together.

Nacho

Question, if I wanted to solo over a song that has 4 or 5 chords, how would i put that together?

Dale Inmon

I totally agree with EZ Whip. Neurons are firing in my brain stem :) Seriously, I have been trying to learn the CAGED system ever since I heard Tom Morello talking about it years ago. Finally, it is all starting to click. I know I have a lot of practice to do but now I have the road map in which to practice. This is how my brain works, I can't do something until I know what I am doing and why I am doing it. Scott, your the best teacher for me and I know I speak for many others. I am having so much fun, especially on my electric guitar now which I never really played since I can not solo. Now I am creating little riffs and hearing songs when I arpeggiate and run thru scales with these tracks on. loving guitar again! and music again for that matter.

Jeremy Ng

Thank you so much for these videos , they are very very helpful. I would love for you to explain soloing over the other scales ( e.g harmonic minor, melodic minor + mixolydian )

Matthew Haid

This series was great and very helpful.

Prens

Just finished watching this series! I am new to the community and I have to say. I have learned more with you in two weeks than with 5 other teachers in 3 years.!! Found you on youtube out of frustration because no one explains where anything comes from or everyone just teaches how to play songs and scales but not the bare bones and theory of where all of the magic comes from so we can create our own music and understand why it sounds great! Thanks for the hard work you put on all of your videos!! and thanks for your magic guitar! and perfectly paced teaching technique!

Scott Paul Johnson

Awesome! Prens, if you're looking to see this stuff from a little different perspective, consider watching NEW CAGED Soloing!
