Hi Everyone,

Join me tomorrow, May 2nd at 10AM Pacific Time for the 158th weekly live Q&A.

If the above link isn’t working for you, here is a link to watch directly on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8zAIjeuxpQ

Here's how it works: bring your questions to the comments below, the community forum, or save them for the live chat.* Questions can be about anything you want - guitar technique, music theory, gear, songwriting - your choice! Also, feel free to link a video of you playing if you have a technique question!

I'll do my best to answer your questions and give examples of how you can practice developing skills related to your question.

Keep in mind, you can always watch later if you can't make it live! Check back a few hours after the stream for a numbered list of each question and a timestamped link to each answer.

*Please note: you may need a youtube/gmail account to ask questions in the live stream, but you can watch without one.

Hey Scott, I am just done with the CAGED Basics II series and I have learnt more in the last 2 weeks than i ever have playing chords and fooling around with the guitar. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us. Had a question on the CAGED shapes and the Pentatonic Shapes. I find it hard sometimes to tell which shape i am on when moving up and down the fretboard. Although I do know my root notes and I am sure this will only get better with more practice, but is there a way to orient yourself to the shape and know which shape comes before and after the current shape while you are playing over a jam track or is it just memorisation? Your emphasis on the correct finger use is very useful, but just looking for other tips and tricks also to make this easier. Anything you can recommend?

For the past several months, I have begun going to our local blues jams and playing. Lots of fun, but a nerve-racking experience. Bad amps no stage monitors -no do-overs…. playing without a net! Suddenly I forget everything I know. -eek- Talk about how to overcome this when I don’t have any friends that I can play with at home. Thx
