Ahh I love it that we are getting another one today 🥰 Okay so I know the instinct is there but Suga is actually Soo-Ga and his full name is Koshi Sugawara :) Tsukishima is such a troll, he just wants to poke the bear, stir the pot lol gotta keep in mind these are kids 😂 I love him tho. Haikyuu is an S tier anime and one reason is the characters, there are going to be A LOT of characters after a while and you will actually grow to care about most of them, even ones that maybe only show up for an episode or two 😅

Nooooo! Don't go hating on my boy tsuki like that!🤣 Well, fair enough, i hated him as well when I first started on haikyuu..🤣🤣🤣 #characterdevelopment

Amazing! I love your reactions, this is my favorite anime series of all time. Don't worry, it just keeps getting better. Don't forget that it's a team effort, we still need to integrate 4 more players to the mix. It's amazing to see the full picture eventually :D

Charaety

Cracking up that you won’t let yourselves learn how to pronounce Tsukishima’s name 😂 He’s definitely a different personality from the rest so far lol Also way to suppress the itch guys 🤣 I was rooting for Jordan to giving in to watching one more BUT I’m actually glad you guys are waiting. I think it lets you (and us) really enjoy each episode especially since it’s one of your first animes. 89 episodes and the anime’s still not completed! Each one will be a treasure for sure.

Haiykuu is everyone's favorite. Don't sweat it. Hinata had friends, but no teammates. Kageyama had teammates, but no friends. I think this is a great parallel to base a show on. Holy shit. Perfect. If you like Redeem Team you will LOVE Bluelock. A soccer anime. God, yes please. Therapy for Kageyama. Where are his parents? Daichi knows they have to work all this out right now. Subtitles at the top normally mean a background conversation. But unfortunately not always. Depends on the anime Hinatas voice is an important part of why you shouldn't watch this in English. Top question: NOW how bad do you want to try volleyball?

Caitlyn Baker

I’ve played volleyball my whole life, and I just wanted to explain and emphasize how crazy/unconventional what Kageyama and Hinata were doing. Usually when doing quick attacks or even regular attacks, the hitters and setter have different plays and attacks they know how to do and have practiced. The hitter will call out what type of set they want while doing their approach. So like a basic set for an outside hitter is a high set to the antenna and they would call out a 5 for this because that is 5 volleyballs above the net. For quick sets, usually hit by middle hitters, they would do their approach to the setter and call a 1 because it’s one volleyball above the net. Where the ball is set and how high it will be set is already predetermined for every play/set the hitters call out. It’s just the setters job to decide who to set to taking into account the blockers and defense of the other team. Kageyama was having to take into account every little move Hinata was making, his position, etc. and line all of that up at the last second as opposed to just have predetermined sets agreed on beforehand. Hopefully that made sense. I’m not very good at explaining.

I could definitely binge watch these 😂

The show definitely does feel extremely fast-paced, and I thought the same thing when I first watched it, but they honestly do an incredible job at pacing throughout the whole story. Just when you think X character has finished their development and gotten to their peak, they bring in another element to challenge them further and then develop THAT story even more. The writers truly outdid themselves and I know it's a very different story from Death Note (and both are great, don't get me wrong), but this show is just so captivating and each character is so well developed that I definitely feel more connected to Haikyuu as a whole. My one question for you guys is, do you think Tsukii's original intention for riling Kageyama up while they were practicing outside last episode was to make him and Shoyo work harder? Or do you think he genuinely is very antagonistic and just enjoyed getting a reaction out of Kageyama and 'putting him in his place'? Because he really didn't need to say all those thing unless he knew they'd benefit from it, but on the other hand he wants to win for his own reasons so getting in their heads would be good for his chances of winning. Or, perhaps, Daichi told him to do that since he, too, knew that going hard on them is a good thing? (Also, some fun trivia for him is that you'll see him wearing clothing with crescent moons on them and that's a slight nod to the fact 'moon' in Japanese is 'tsuki') Sidenote: I watched this show WAY before I got into BTS, but I can't help but think of our other Suga every time I rewatch it. I think it's because they're actually very similar people. Soft-spoken, sort of mysterious in the beginning, but overall their main motivation is to help those around them and enhance the skills and talents of their teammates (or, in Yoongi's case, bandmates) while also being extremely important to the team in their own rights.

this one play might not be in real life play. this would be the only thing that doesnt make sense in real world. but coach donny(vb HS coach) once said in his reaction that there is a setter that can do pin point toss like kageyama. So at least the pinpoint set can be done irl. and for this eye closing spike, it seems unreal so the japanese olympic vb players tried to do that. it took them 20 mins of practice to get it right but at least they were able to spike like hinata with eyes closed. So that means it is doable but really difficult to use it in the real matches. One thing i would love to say is that Furudate sensei(the manga artisit of haikyu) was a middle blocker in his school days and was a horror manga artist before he did haikyu. That's why some of the facial expressions are well drawn like tanaka getting riled up and etc. But that's not what i wanted to say, he went for scouting the highschool vb players, interviewing them and tracking how they spent practicing times before he actually wrote haikyu. I just wanted to finish by saying that apart from this unreal eye closing moment the rest of haikyu are the same as irl vb.

bebe

i believe there are clips of voice actors of haikyu playing around on youtube

Your reaction to Tsukishima had me cracking up lol! He's my favorite character along with Tanaka! Fun fact: Haruichi Furudate also played volleyball throughout his school years. The portrayal of his attention to details of the game are impressive. I've watched the former Korean National Team's captain Kim Yeon Koung react to a few episodes (of a later season when their skills are better than now) of one of their actual matches and she also recognized the attention to details, saying "whoever wrote this, truly knows volleyball".

Your sub vs dub comment piqued my interest. I find so much value in watching anime in Japanese but there are a few animes for which I have a huge affection for the dub. Haikyuu!! is one anime where the dub adds so much flavor and humor. I love the dub! I think watching the sub first is great but I’d totally recommend watching the dub on a second run through of the series.

Lauren H.

It is SO fun to watch this with you guys. I love hearing how much you can relate as athletes.

Thank you for back-to-back reactions. The Haikyuu!! manga series (original written and illustrated comic books) are beautiful, too. Big-box store booksellers like Barnes & Noble have manga sections and carry Haikyuu!! mangas if you ever want to peruse one. Manga pages are turned from the back of the book to front and word and dialogue bubbles are read right to left. A few extra tidbits about our two main characters (from their bios in Vol. 1 of the manga)… Hinanta as a 1st year: He’s in class 1-1. He is 5’4” and weighs 114 lbs. His bday is June 21 (summer solstice). His fave food is eggs over rice. And his current worry is not being able to palm a volleyball. He scores a 5/5 for stamina, speed, and jumping. He scores 1/5 for power, technique, and gameplay intelligence. Kageyama as a 1st year: He’s in class 1-3. He is 5’11” and weighs 146 lbs. His bday is Dec 22 (day after the winter solstice). His fave food is pork curry with slow-cooked eggs. And his current worry is he thinks animals don’t like him. He scores 5/5 for stamina, gameplay intelligence, and technique. He scores 4/5 for power, jumping, and speed. I hope these two knuckleheads (Hinata + Kageyama) continue to make you laugh and smile. So many nuggets of truth and wisdom in this series.

I know everyone have different opinions but for me Haikyuu is so far the best sports anime there is at the moment (Slam Dunk comes close second for me because it's such an OG classic).. And what I absolutely LOVE about Haikyuu, aside from the awesome match plays, are the characters. Their stories and their development throughout the whole show is something so relatable in a lot of ways and so brilliantly written story-wise. And I love that there are really no real villains on Haikyuu. I've watched so many reaction channels on youtube who reacted to Haikyuu and hated on other teams lol. I mean sure we're basically on the Team Karasuno train so we're all rooting for them and trash talking are kind of a part of sports but there's so many lovable characters on the whole show even outside of Karasuno. I have so many favorite characters from other teams hahaha. It's still a long journey ahead so I look forward to you guys seeing each and every individual characters' growth, development and chemistry especially since the show really does a great job at telling every player's perspective. The humor on this show is also really right up my alley so I was really just laughing everytime at their banters, playful insults and all their shenanigans every episode. Easily one of my none skip episode and can rewatch anytime animes! You are in for a great one, I assure you that! Only gets better and better from here.. :)

Mel

Same! I love Tsukishima and Tanaka on Karasuno! There’s another character that I love on Karasuno but hasn’t appear yet so imma keep it silent lol.

Oleksandra Yakubenko

14:27 you showed the poster for Redemption Team, and it was a Ukrainian poster (the lower name is in Ukrainian)😭 i felt seen😂

C.J. Rose

🤣 I love how you pronounce Suga name even though that’s not accurate. I miss BTS too 🫡😭🥰 Question: Now that you’ve seen these characters and know that there’s more to come, what do you think of the older team members reaction to Hinata first saying he will become the Ace of the team? Do you have predictions as to how that may play out for him and the team as he is quite the determined player, or will his determination hinder him as a team player?

Lynn #7

Very well explained! Couldnt have said it any better 💜🙏🏻💜🙏🏻

JustanotherIntrnationalfan who suffers

I won't spoil anything but I'll say there are 89 episodes because the show also tells the stories of other characters besides Hinata and Kageyama.

Lynn #7

Oh we are lovin' the long discussions and the stories you tell so please dont apologise and keep them comin' ! 💜 (Sorry I added this here after watching Ep3 and Ep4 together) Apart from the humor which I absolutely love (cracked me up so many times watching you two as well 😂), this episode emphasized a lot about how a setter can not only orchestrate the team's entire offense, but also use court awareness to make life easier for the spikers and maximise the "kill". Toss the ball to where you want the spiker to be, or toss the ball to where the spiker is going to be. I loved how we got to see Suga's honest and constructive feedback as an observer and Kageyama's willingness to be open to that as a player. No surprise there's a lot more in store! Looking forward to the next! Love you guys 💜🙏💜🙏

Oscar OBG

*Don't have to answer this just curious*When a viewer asked if y'all would play volleyball I believe Jared said "if I could jump I would play spiker." Were you referring to some sort of injury you received that made it so you can't jump anymore or am I reading too deep?

TW

When y’all was talking about ego it remind me of this anime called blue lock it’s a soccer anime, and I think y’all would enjoy that too

Bibi

I am not sure how far you are in your Haikyuu binge but if it's possible, I would recommend watching ep 8 & 9 together 👀

nikki

I recommend a binge watch lol!!! I love Death Note and AoT but I'm looking forward to their Haikyuu uploads the most.. 🥹✨️

Bibi

@nikki I might be bias here but I look forward to Haikyuu the most because that is my #1 anime and comfort show 😔

jaredandjordananime

😂😂😂 Thanks fox! We are tooooo used to saying our guy Suga's name. We will try our best going forward to pronounce it Son-Ga. We cannot wait to learn about ALL of the various characters! You got us excited :)

jaredandjordananime

😂 Maybe in the next episode we will learn how to say misname properly. And we may have to watch 3 episodes at one time one of these days 👀 Haha.. but you are so right, since it's one of our first anime's it is better for us to go slow and really enjoy each episode. We are really enjoying this series so far!!

jaredandjordananime

And we may have to watch the dub after we finish the sub! And this show is piquing our interest in volleyball for sure!!

jaredandjordananime

My goodness Caitlyn... is this another language you are speaking! You are brilliant and this definitely helps us understand better! Please keep providing your insight!!! 🙏

Kia

I am loving this anime so much. I don’t know why I never watched it. I had started it before and watched the first 2 episodes then stopped but this right here is quickly becoming a favorite. I love the characters. The writing is exquisite. I can see there’s going to be some beautiful character development and dynamics that play out. I just love it!!

nikki

it truly is a comfort show.. i've rewatched it so many times and i still feel all the goosebumps and heartwarming moments.. :)

Veronica

Slowly catching up! Oh man, Kageyama is my favorite character in this anime. More to come! Also, Japanese voice actors are on a different level. The talent these voice actors have is beyond insane. I know you’re watching AOT as well and Eren’s voice actor is one of the top ones out there as well. The more you watch anime maybe you’ll recognize the same voice actor in other anime.

BtsOT79798

yeah so far ive only watched some animes both in sub and in dub but i haven't watched this anime in Sub yet! Its cool to see the differences but also similrities between both
