I am pretty sure but could be wrong, but "genius" in this context and in anime in general I think means "prodigy" so people view kageyama as a prodigy while other players can be excellent or even better than him, he was born talented

Oikawa to me is someone who isn't necessarily naturally gifted, but makes up the difference with relentless practice, and an incredible bond with his teammates. He's a John Stockton, or a Tony Parker, someone who isn't incredibly athletic but through an unmatched understanding of both the game and his opponents becomes incredibly dangerous.

There are a lot of details that make Seijoh an interesting team and this episode show a bit more of that: - The meetings between the players are supervised by the coaches, but they try to not take part. Maybe that’s because they think the players have to plan strategies and communicate by their own. - How Oikawa “manipulates” Kindaichi (turnip head) to take his best. In the practice match and in this tournament you can see that Kindaichi is still watching out for Kageyama, thinking how is his change possible in just 2 months. Oikawa is so perceptive and sees all of that, that’s why he asks Kindaichi if he is frustrated that the role of Kageyama’s partner was stolen by Hinata (Hinata has discovered how to play properly with him in 2 months but he hasn’t in 3 years). Oikawa knows exactly what needs every one of his players to do their best and it’s amazing. - As a Spaniard is very funny how the crowd is cheering OOOOOLÉEEEEEE every time Oikawa is serving, we do it a lot in so many contexts but that was the first time I saw it in an anime ☺️ P.S. You ask twice about my nickname. Umi is my name’s translation in Japanese: Umi (Japanese) = Mar (Spanish) = sea (English) In English sea is not a name, but in Spain (and other Spanish-speaking countries) Mar is a woman’s name.

Yeah, you got it right it’s basically someone with talent

Now you can see some of the reasons why I love Oikawa and why I consider him to be my favourite anime character of all time just like Suga is.. He is a great team player, great Captain and can bring out 100% of his spikers potential. There is more to come involving Oikawa in the next few episodes that just makes him much more relatable and will make you want to cheer for him in the end dispite rooting for Karasuno.

I think the title of the episode "Oikawa Toru is not a genius" does imply that he is not naturally gifted or born talented, but he puts in work and researches and is strategic. When Iwa talked to him on the field, Oikawa said that he isn't able to do the skills that kageyama does, BUT he will bring out the best of the team and always gives it his all. You don't have to be a genius to be good at something. Over the seasons, they will come back to this mindset often, and it really encourages me personally. (I stop here because i don't want to spoil anything). Also: I started Haikyuu in 2015 because a friend recommended it to me. First I thought "sports anime? really?" but it became one of my all time favorites that i often rewatch/reread. I still remember reading the final chapter when it got released and i cried a little bit haha. I really enjoy your Anime reactions in general!!

thanks for great reaction guys))) so what do you think in real live which one wins hardwork or talent ?

I really like this episode for showing how two different people react under pressure. Tanaka and Kageyama are both being pressed but Tanaka has a more mature way of handling it.
