Content

Hey heroes, title says it all. The video goes into more detail about the time off and why it's sadly needed.

TLDW; I'm taking another week away from making daily content in order to continue planning a path forward in the wake of OGL 1.1. I know that I and the rest of the creator community are doing everything we can to continue making content for you with as little disruption to you as possible. OGL 1.1  makes this extremely challenging and painful to do so. More information about the specifics of this license should be coming out soon, so hang tight for more details on the hows and whys of it all.

I'll be back on the 9th, next Monday. In the meantime, I'll be continuing to meet with my lawyers, planning, and getting any time-sensitive content published. Thank you all for your patience. I'm sure I'll be back again before too long, so keep an eye and ear out.

As always, you are all my heroes. I couldn't do this without you, and it's an honor to be here with you. Thank you again, and I'll be back soon with more content!

Hey heroes, I'll be taking another week off as I and the rest of the creator community evaluate what OGL 1.1 means for us and make choices about how best to continue forward making content. Thank you for your patience throughout this, and if you're unsure of what's going on, hang tight for more news in the coming days. I know I speak for everyone creating content for 5e when I say that I want to keep doing this for you. I'll see you back online next Monday with, hopefully, a minimally disruptive path decided. In the meantime, I'll be continuing to meet with lawyers about what's feasible. Talk more soon, and keep on adventuring! -g

People will still play 5e I think no one won't play it so can't you still make 5e content

Mirriky

Even if WotC somehow revokes their current 5e OGL for something more restrictive, if you move to another non-D&D system I will be moving with you.

Maybe have a poll of people that plan on moving to one DND? I'm planning on just staying with 5e and moving to pathfinder 2e. Wotc has been pretty disappointing lately.

I'd prefer you continue making content for 5e and just avoid the new, toxic OGL all together. I don't plan on leaving 5e for One D&D, and I have a suspicion of you polled your fans you'd find a majority of players will have the same opinion. Regardless of what you decide to do, I hope I can still support you along the way

Ed Robinson

Agreeing with those previous posters, I have no desire to move to One D&D... sticking with 5e and earlier.

The problem with this, and maybe I don't know shit about contracts, but this new OGL 1.1, would override the old one, so they couldn't make content for 5e and still not be affected by the new OGL and ONE D&D.

If I'm not mistaken, they've legally made that not possible. They have officially stated several times in the past that you can operate under whichever OGL you like, and that each OGL will only apply to the current system. So While WotC may want to make the new OGL apply to all content, I don't think they legally can

The leak for the new ogl 1.1 that other popular hombrewers are talking about in discord channels would override it due to the language being used. This is all above me understanding since I'm not a lawyer but what they are saying (and these are the people that actively make a living under the OGL so I feel like they know what they are talking about) 1.1 would mean WOTC can use their creation without paying or asking the creator at all, while also getting a slice of the pie. Honestly I'm thinking I'm jumping ship to pathfinder 2e cause WOTC is making a lot of mistakes. WotC/Hasbro is actively trying to get a slice of the homebrew 5e pie since they are seeing how much money they "missed out on" and might be worried people don't move to one dnd so they are making sure they get to get some money either way

Having just looked over the big changes in the leaked OGL 1.1, my level of empathy for Griffin has kicked into overdrive. This just *sucks*. Like he said in the video, it's *way* worse than the PR piece is suggesting. Resist. The only leverage you creators have is NOT to sign. Keep publishing under 1.0a / 5E SRD. It isn't rescinded if you don't sign the new one. That is WHY a signature is required now, because that is the only way they can override Clause 9 of 1.0a in a bullet-proof, stands-up-in-court way. If enough of you hold out, hopefully Hasbro will come back from La La Land, and restructure this to be a bit less disgusting, and everybody can get back to bettering this hobby.

My group is in the process of switching to Pathfinder 2e because of all this. Might be worth looking at too!

Moving to Savage Worlds Pathfinder. Come join the fun. They have cookies.

OneD&D seems to be on the ramp-up of being rather lame. 5e is just fine and flexible.

Love your content Griffon! You and Kibble have some of the best Patreon content out there (IMO). Will support your work as much as I can!

I just purged my Foundry VTT Server for my next campaign and will start fresh with Symbaroum. Your Artwork and ideas are not necessarily DnD-specific, so I'm looking forward to keep using your content albeit in a different system, world and context. While I won't end my Patreon pledge, a solution where the money doesn't also end up in a Hasbro CEO's bonus would be preferable.
