Wondrous item, uncommon

This slim wooden carrying case holds three dark paper birds. While holding a paper bird, you can use an action to speak its command phrase, "By fold and feather, fly." When you do, the paper springs to life and transforms into a raven for 1 hour. For the duration, the raven is treated as if it were your familiar summoned by the find familiar spell. Its animal form can't be changed. The raven reverts to its paper form at the end of the hour, if it's reduced to 0 hit points, or if you dismiss it. When it does, it immediately tears itself to tiny paper shreds and is destroyed.

Mira drifted awake as pain lanced through her chest—her hand grasping at the bandages wrapped over her heart. Fear rising, her eyes snapped open to see…

Nothing. Absence of sight. Was she blind? Her breath quickened. Her coiled body tensing all the more as a hand fell on her shoulder.

"Before you panic, could I make a request?"

"I, I—" she stammered, drawing a bracing breath, "I'll listen."

A paper pressed into her hand as she heard, "Repeat this, and focus."

"By fold and feather, fly."

She uttered the same words and felt her awareness shift. She could see once more! But this perspective...

She looked up to see herself, bandaged and in blood-stained battle dress. She recognized now that her sight was the one of the once-paper raven's, who now stood perched on her belly. Gauze covered her eyes, barely concealing a jagged scar. Her eyes—

Don't panic, she remembered. Breathe. Read the scene. Her wounds were stable. She was in a richly furnished room, and a black-coated man knelt beside her. An ornate case lay on the ground. With a brash grin, the man said,

"The name's Alistair Rook. I don't want to hurry you, but we really should be going, Miss...?"

"Mira. Just Mira."

"Well, Mira, how about we first find a better option before I run out of ravens?"
