Hey heroes!

Each week on Discord, community members nominate other members' suggested items to be made into official Saddlebag items. The top two most voted-for item ideas each week get made, following back and forth workshopping and discussion.

Here are the randomly selected item ideas drawn from this week's nominations!

Ideas

1)  Foul Fowl Flute  — This short, small flute is shaped like a water fowl's bill at the end and the air holes are etched with the symbol of a bird. As an action, you can cover a hole to produce the sounds of different birds, with a 25% chance cause those creatures within 60 feet of you to become hostile.

2)  Shamisen of the Changing Wind  — A shamisen made of deep purple wood, inlaid with a pattern of falling petals. This instrument can be used as a shortbow that uses projectiles of air instead of normal ammunition and deals slashing damage. When you make an attack you can use a bonus action to impart various benefits to it such as attacking another creature within 5 feet of the original target or pushing yourself away from your current location. Additionally, you can spend 1 minute casting the calm emotions spell from the shamisen.

3)  Paper Cat  — A sentient origami cat that can refold into a fish or a bird to gain swim or fly speeds. It loves to explore and take notes on what it sees, and can be unfolded to read what it's seen in the past hour.

4)  Sylren's (Apprentice's) Breastplate  — A breastplate that release random effects when you speak its command word as a reaction when you're hit by an attack, such as releasing spikes around you, growing a layer of goo, or shocking your attacker.

5)  Scroll of the True Self  — A scroll to make your outer appearance match your inner one. You can use the scroll to cast the alter self spell using the Change Appearance option. When the spell ends the appearance becomes permanent.

6)  Ring of Contempt  — A cursed ring that glows with cold spite whenever you're near a specific creature type. If that creature hits you with an attack, it takes cold damage and the damage you take is reduced by a similar amount.

7)  Calligrapher's Shade  — A pen used by a calligrapher who specialized in lifelike tattoos. You gain a bonus to relevant ability checks when using this pen, and if you are proficient with calligrapher's supplies can use the pen to give yourself a tattoo which can separate from your body, replicating the effects of find familiar. The created familiar is an ooze and when dismissed returns to being an animated tattoo on your body.
