A badge of the savant is a platinum bookplate that can be magically affixed to a wizard's spellbook. Each badge features a design that represents a different school of magic. While a badge is attached to the cover of your spellbook, the gold and time you must spend to copy a spell of that badge's school of magic into your spellbook is halved. You can collect multiple of these plates and fit them onto the cover of your spellbook, allowing you to gain this benefit for multiple schools of magic at once.

You can use an action to attach or remove a badge from a spellbook by expending a spell slot of a level equal to 1 plus the number of badges already on the book (a maximum of a 9th level spell slot).

Holly ran through the dusty street to where her friend was sitting. He was leafing through his spellbook and reviewing its contents for what seemed like the hundredth time that day. He looked up as she weaved through the crowd towards him and smiled.

"No way, seriously?" he said, "In this dustbowl of a town?"

"Yeah! Here, you didn't have the one for abjuration yet, did you?"

Oscar's eyes lit up as he reached out for the metal plate in her hand. His smile broadened. "No, I didn't! This is awesome, Holly, thank you for finding this! How much do I owe you?"

Holly smiled knowingly, "Don't worry about it. Just use it to keep us both safe, okay?"

Oscar's toothy grin changed to one of heartfelt sincerity, and his eyes, once lit up by excitement, were now lit by another emotion.
