Weapon (maul), rare (requires attunement)

Despite the head of this maul being made from vines, it seems impossibly solid and carries with it a formidable heft. You gain a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon. The maul has 4 charges and regains 1d4 expended charges each day at dawn. When you hit a Medium or smaller target with the maul, you can expend a charge to force it to make a Strength saving throw. On a failure, it takes 1d6 piercing damage and is restrained by thorny vines until the end of its next turn. The DC for this property is equal to 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Strength modifier.

The archdruid Tiren took a branch from the great Yll tree. He admired the quality of the bark, the wood, the leaves, and turned back to the tree. He didn't say a word, but it was perfectly clear that he was thanking the enormous tree for its generosity.

A moment passed before he turned his attention back to the branch in his hands. With the slightest of gestures, he picked a thorn from a nearby shrub and placed it point-first into the branch's bark. Immediately the branch sprouted vines, leaves, and thorns from the point he touched, covering the branch and amassing all at one end. It took only a minute, but the severed branch had been born anew as something great and terrible.

Tiren passed the branch to Woe, the tiefling horned knight standing before him.

"Here," he said, "Take it. This is a gift from the forest, as well as from me. Use it to defend the light, to protect what is good in the world. Don't let blight take it away: stand strong and root it where it stands. This is yours now. The Yll fights for you and your cause."

Woe's hands shook slightly as she gripped it, feeling the surprising heft and solidity of the tightly-knit vines at the bough's head. She made sure not to grasp the thorns too tightly out of both respect and fear of the weapon. As she did, flowers sprung from the bough's vines: as if to welcome her to home.
