Wondrous item, very rare

This lamp is filled with bubbling magma. It radiates with heat and emits a steady red glow, which sheds bright light in a 20-foot radius and dim light for an additional 20 feet. A creature that touches the lamp's glass takes 5 fire damage.

The lamp has a latched cap at its top. You can use an action to open the cap and pour hot lava from the lamp. You then close the cap again. The lava covers the ground in a 5-foot square within 5 feet of you. A creature on the ground within that space must make a DC 16 Dexterity saving throw. On a failed save, a creature takes 10d10 fire damage. On a success, a creature takes no damage and moves to the nearest unoccupied space of its choice, without provoking opportunity attacks; a creature unable to move takes no damage from the effect but doesn't move. The lava cools after 1 minute. While the lava remains hot, a creature that enters a space covered in the lava for the first time on its turn or that ends its turn there takes 3d10 fire damage.

There's enough magma within the lamp to use this property 4 times. It regains any used magma daily at dawn. If the lamp has no magma left, it emits no light, and touching the glass deals no fire damage.

Delling Hammerhelm, suited ill to war, but bright in wisdom,

learned was he in ancient ways of stone.

With wandering kin lost, stifled in the dark,

pursued by foes, held back by beacons' light.

But oil ran dry, their safety guttering, gone,

and they were hounded, deeper even still.

'Til came they to a river, its eddies a burning red,

dim shine of molten stone their only ward.

So he knew what must be done to carry again their light,

and lead them back to tunnels home.

Lantern held firm, he plunged it with his hand,

deep into magma's flow, its heat to grasp.

His flesh was seared, but lamplight shone forth, renewed,

stone answered to his call against his foes.

And scarred now past the will of lesser dwarves,

he led his kin to sunlight's hold above.

So ends his tale in rock and flame.
