Wondrous item, uncommon (requires attunement by a druid, warlock, or wizard)

This wizard's hat is split into a starburst pattern along the bottom. Small star pendants hang from each of its points. While wearing this hat, you always know which direction is north. At night, you can't become lost by nonmagical means, provided you can see the sky.

In addition, while wearing the hat, you can use an action to cast the moonbeam spell from the hat, using your spell save DC. Between dusk and dawn, this version of the spell creates a wave of radiant energy when the moonlit beam crashes onto the ground; until the start of your next turn, the cylinder has a radius of 10 feet, instead of 5 feet. Once this property of the hat has been used, it can't be used again until the next dawn or dusk.

Naughtso Stellar, charlatan mage, took a step back and raised his hands in surrender as the goblins advanced. Putting on his shakiest showman's smile, he said, "Now now, fine gentlefolk, I assure you my untimely demise would be an unwise strategic decision."

Their chief sneered, "Ye? And whyzat, pointy? Y'don't look like summat worth keepin' t'me."

"Ah, maybe so, but I am a master of valuable knowledge, arcane and esoteric. In fact, I am a capable reader of the stars' portents, both grand and precise!"

The goblin let out a barking laugh. "Bah! And what're they saying 'bout yer death?"

The man looked skyward with feigned concentration. "Well, they're saying that at this exact time, the confluence of northern constellations will focus its light between ten and twenty feet southwest of me—right above you, in fact—and with just a gentle nudge…"

Just then, a column of starlight exploded in the middle of the goblins, its radiance incinerating the ground of intruders—and the very tip of Stellar's beard.

The mage put out the tip of his beard with a pinch of his fingers, continuing on: "…they're willing to do a spot of cleaning."
