Did you guys hear about the extensive rewriting of Roald Dahl books that was announced yesterday? The publishers are doing it to appeal to modern sensibilities (I assumed maybe removing an occasional racist description that slipped by and was acceptable at the time), but when you look at the hundreds of actual changes that have been made for each book, it's really awful. Loads of great writing was removed, especially if there was any reference to fatness, and was replaced with the most bland and milquetoast slop. https://www.telegraph.co.uk./news/2023/02/17/roald-dahl-books-rewritten-offensive-matilda-witches-twits/ Examples: "You can’t go round pulling the hair of every lady you meet, even if she is wearing gloves. I should have known "The Autopsy" was a Michael Shea story! Even when I was watching that episode, I was thinking, "This really strikes that Shea balance of having visceral, brutal cosmic horror, but featuring an ordinary, vulnerable human who somehow finds the backdoor agency to give the finger to the Audient Void." It must be one of the stories I haven't read yet, but I can't wait to get to it.

I was just coming here to see if someone had tipped Chris and Chad off about this yet. Absolutely disgusting. The Witches has been gutted of almost anything frightening or horrific. It's a children's horror story for Cthulhu's sake!
