you guys may have eventually realized or addressed this, but I thought it important to mention, especially given that we also all enjoy HPL. Jack Vance got/has a lot of notoriety in gaming circles because, besides d&d magic being 'vancian', he's specifically mentioned in the 1st edition ad&d dmg as part of Appendix N, the listing of further reading that gamers might want to do for inspiration and flavor. MUCH more recently (in the last couple years), a certain subset of white supremacist online circles that overlaps with role-players has really latched onto Appendix N and the authors and works mentioned in it. To the point where #appendixN is not an unusual sight in those white supremacist circles. Accurate or not, they've really projected their ideology and aryan/misogynist power fantasies onto these authors (though strangely rarely reference hpl himself). I'm not saying to avoid these works, as a lot of them are a lot of fun and are either explicitly not racist or the authors themselves are clearly not. But an awareness that any discussion of material from that source may attract this distasteful element is something we need to have, so we can effectively police our own communities and ensure they remain safe spaces for everyone.
